Happy Festivus!

Or pick a holiday. Any holiday. Or none at all. It's all good.

Now that we've passed the solstice, the days will be getting longer and the darkness will become less and less. Before long, the trees will be budding and the grass will be growing and the warm days will return.

Until then, huddle close and keep the spirits bright. And remember to tell those that you love that you love them.

Summer is almost over and we're JUST NOW getting around to an outing to the coast.

The sun was warm and the weather was fine for a jaunt to First Beach in LaPush on the Quileute Reservation. It was a wonderful way to spend part of the Labor Day weekend.

It's the time of year that everyone likes to fill themselves with cheer for the holidays.

That's all well and good, but remember to spread that cheer to others.

Instead of arguing about what color the coffee cup is, buy a cup and give it to the person out on the street corner holding the sign asking for help. While you're at it, ask them if they need some clean socks or an extra blanket.

Be that guy.

Back to the coast!

Haven't been to the Pacific Ocean for a long time, so it's time for a beach hike. Today's target was Rialto Beach near LaPush.

Our destination was Hole in the Wall, an ocean-carved opening in a rock abutment about a mile north of the parking area. The spot is popular with hikers and beach-goers!

Felt good to have some sand beneath the hooves.

It was a gorgeous summer day to be out in the pasture. These were some kindred spirits at Freedom Farm in the Agnew area between Sequim and Port Angeles. Wonderful weather for a bike ride!

Summer!

It was a good day for an excursion to Carrie Blake Park in Sequim to see the algae growing on the pond at the Sequim-Shoshi Japanese Garden.

No matter, it was great to be out of the barn for awhile on a sunny afternoon.

Another annual visit to the Cowtown of Kansas City and we met another bovine along the way.

He seems a bit bigger than us, but he and Lunch must be related -- they each have the same tilted horn!

Hurray! Spring is in full swing in the Pacific Northwest. The showers and rain of our normally-dreary month of May have taken a back seat to a stretch of very decent weather. (Maybe it's that climate change thing they keep talking about.)

Either way, it was a lovely day for a bike ride on the Waterfront Trail.

No matter what holiday you celebrate, Festivus is for the rest of us.

When it comes time for the airing of grievances, the biggest grievance of all is for the intolerance of others. Almost everyone celebrates something special this time of year.

We're all in this together. Taking care of each other is the biggest and bestest feat of strength.

YAY! It's time for another road trip adventure.

The packs are packed, the suitcase is filled with margaritas and the tent is stowed. It's off to the Southwest!

We were planning to go camping in Yosemite, but wildfires have turned it into a place that's probably not good for backcountry grazing. Too much smoke to savor the good grass of the wilderness.

So it's off to Utah!

Back to the woods

Summer's here!

It was a nice spring, but there's nothing like the long, warm days of summer.

Was good to get out to Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. We sure have been itching for a walk in the woods. Today was perfect a stroll up to Marymere Falls near Barnes Point.

The trail is pretty easy -- just 1.5 miles round trip with two bridges over the streams. It's only a short uphill hike to the falls overlook.

Marymere is among the most popular places in the park and for good reason. It's a tranquil place, despite a steady stream of visitors taking photographs!

Back in Cowtown

Wow, it's been awhile since we've been back in Cowtown, aka Kansas City. There's plenty of good grazing to be done in these parts.

But ... I sure hope they serve pork or chicken here.

Uhhh... Hmmmm...

Can we just get some salad with a lot of clover and alfalfa on the side?

Spring at last!

Spring officially arrived last week, but it's still been kind of nippy around here.

But at long last, a warm sunny day to go out and play! Time to smell the flowers and hopefully find a bit of nice, green grass to graze on. The brown hay of winter is starting to get a bit stale and we're ready for something fresh and new!

'Tis the season when the lights are up, the tinsel is glittering, the bells are jingling and the stores have been playing holiday music since Halloween.

But no matter which holiday you celebrate -- Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus -- or even no holiday at all -- it's still a good time to consider being a bit kinder to fellow travelers on this Planet Earth because we're all in this together.

An adventure overdue

We're finally getting ready for a new adventure, one long overdue. This time it's a camping road trip to the Southwest and Southern California. Time to test out the gear and see what condition everything is in.

We're hoping to get to the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. Might even have time for Mojave Reserve.

Not a lot to graze on out in the desert, but there's salt licks a'plenty! 

Not so scary in the barn . . .

Halloween is coming and the frost is almost on the pumpkin. Lunch and Snack wonder: Should they eat it or carve it? Hmmmm......

Easter cows and friends

Lunch and Snack invited their Easter friends for brunch on Easter morning. First, the bunny peeps showed up. Then White Rabbit came but the party got started when little chick arrived with Reese's eggs. Mmmmmmm......peanut butter!

O Canada!

Hurrah! Alexandre Bilodeau wins the first Canadian Olympic gold medal on Canadian soil! This means a lot to Lunch since he is from Whistler, one of the venues of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Bilodeau, from Quebec, took gold in men's moguls at Cypress Mountain, just down the road from Lunch's hometown. He received 26.75 points out of a possible 30. And his jumps were awesome!
